Role Overview

We are currently looking for a Bid Proposal Development Manager to join an innovative and collaborative R&D company based in the Durham area. As the Bid Proposal Development Manager you will help develop successful funding proposals for collaborative R&D and innovation projects. You will be required to identify new opportunities for projects and suitable sources of funding, and take overall responsibility for building consortia and submitting proposals for funding.

This specific role will be to support the development of collaborative projects based on the company's capabilities in Electronics to address needs in diverse markets including Logistics & Packaging, Med-Tech, Automotive and Energy. You will also be required to be able to understand and incorporate broader marketing offering, including capabilities in Formulation, Materials, Biotechnology and Pharmaceuticals.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Your duties as the Bid Proposal Development Manager will be varied however the key duties and responsibilities are as follows:

1. To develop a deep understanding of potential funding bodies and sources and create an external network and profile to strengthen external profile in the innovation funding space. Identify appropriate funds and partners to create capability building projects, working in
partnership with colleagues to build effective, collaborative relationships and projects.

2. Communicate effectively between funding bodies, internal colleagues and external partners to facilitate ongoing funding. Create and maintain a register of public and private funding sources, including Regional, National and International (e.g., Horizon 2020, IUK and LEP)

3. To undertake robust due diligence of potential public bids and private proposals with colleagues and external partners to verify a sound business opportunity exists. Identify and manage commercial, technical and reputational risk at pre-bid / proposal stage.

4. Be responsible for building, writing and submitting public-private bids/proposals aligned with business strategy and technical capability. Coordinate external bid partners to ensure a cohesive high quality bid is submitted on time and to budget. Be accountable for ensuring that bids are fully costed and in line with agreed budgets

5. Collaborate early with project management teams to transition winning bids into project initiation, implementation and delivery. Maintain a dynamic library of data sources, references and potential funding sources. Be accountable for a delegated public-private funding portfolio and provide actual/budget/forecast performance reports in agreed format.

Role Requirements

To be successful in your application to this exciting opportunity as the Bid Proposal Development Manager we are looking to identify the following on your profile and past history:

1. You will be educated to degree level in a science, technology, engineering or business discipline, ideally with knowledge of application development relating to the Internet of Things, sensor technology development and deployment, and application of integrated electronic systems in a range of other industries.

2. You must be able to demonstrate a strong commercial awareness supported with excellent writing skills and the technical credibility to build relationships with partners in industry and academia.

3. You should have a proven track record in developing innovative R&D projects and securing funding within a relevant technology area or market. Previous experience developing funding proposals for Innovate UK or H2020 funding would be desirable.
