Role Overview

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Head of Engineering to join a leading Life Sciences business who are at the forefront of COVID-19 vaccine manufacturing. You will be the Head of Engineering for a brand new state-of-the-art facility based in the South East. The site has an exciting future and will become a world leading innovation centre for commercial scale Cell and Gene Therapy products.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Your duties as the Head of Engineering will be varied however the key duties and responsibilities are as follows:

1. The primary purpose of this role is to be responsible for the management of the manufacturing facilities hard and soft services. The position will play a strategic role in developing the engineering services and capabilities, including the management of the engineering and facilities budgets.

2. This role will ensure that the new engineering and facilities policies and procedures, meets the required standards and expectations of the Company and the Regulatory agencies.

3. As the Head of Engineering you will be working closely with key stakeholders during the construction, commissioning and validation of the new facility and to assist in the delivery of an on time on budget project. Including providing support as requested during the installation and commissioning of systems, (e.g. BMS, HVAC, Electrical and Health and Safety). You will also be responsible for purchasing and validating all of the mechanical and electrical systems, ensuring equipment meets operational requirements.

4. You will also be responsible for the establishment and maintenance of a GMP compliant calibration and planned preventative management (PPM) program

Role Requirements

To be successful in your application to this exciting opportunity as the Head of Engineering we are looking to identify the following on your profile and past history:

1. Educated to degree level in an Engineering discipline (i.e Bioprocess Engineering / Mechanical Engineering / Chemical Engineering) or an equivalent recognised professional technical qualification. Coupled with a membership of a relevant professional engineering institution.

2. Proven industry experience of building and running a GMP Engineering / Facilities management team in a commercial biologicals or vaccines manufacturing facility.

3. Proven knowledge of EU / MHRA / HTA / HFEA and FDA regulatory requirements and ability to present information to regulatory authorities, coupled with robust knowledge of Environmental and Health and Safety legislation within the pharmaceutical / biopharmaceutical industry.

4. An understanding of Building Services, M&E systems, building fabric and BMS, EMS systems and operation is essential, as well as proven first-hand experience of working with PPM Systems.
