Role Overview

We are currently looking for an experienced and ambitious Senior Scientist - Liver Biology to join a leading life sciences company based in the Edinburgh area. Our client are known for offering specialist preclinical contract research services to Pharmaceutical & Biotechnology companies focussed on Immuno-Oncology, Immunology, Neuroscience and specialised multiplex Histology, and are looking to further diversify into aspects of liver disease and fibrosis.

As the Senior Scientist - Liver Biology you will be responsible for primary research into hepatocyte assay development and client project delivery within the field of liver biology and fibrosis. You will also be involved in exciting project management and business development for the company.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Your duties as the Senior Scientist - Liver Biology will be varied however the key duties and responsibilities are as follows:

1. Participate in the production and maintenance of primary cell cultures/cell lines/organoids/tissue slices, and establish in-vivo models as required. Additionally, develop, validate and run relevant hepatocyte cell-based assays.

2. Actively reviewing and analysing scientific literature to understand relevant technical protocols with relation to client projects.

3. Working as part of the company team and with academic contacts and clients to ensure delivery of high quality client projects in a timely manner, including implementing quality control steps and developing and updating SOPs.

4. Taking an active role in nurturing new and expanding client relationships, including presenting at conferences to capture new commercial opportunities.

5. As the Senior Scientist - Liver Biology, you will additionally line manage reporting Scientists and delegate project tasks across the team.

Role Requirements

To be successful in your application to this exciting opportunity as the Senior Scientist - Liver Biology we are looking to identify the following on your profile and past history:

1. A degree (ideally PhD) in a relevant life sciences discipline, ideally within Liver Biology plus relevant post-doctoral experience in the field.

2. Evidence of a strong conceptual understanding of the field, with demonstrable laboratory experience within cellular and molecular biology.

3. Conference presentation and client discussion experience would be advantageous.
