Role Overview

We are currently looking for a Upstream Associate Scientist to join a leading CDMO based in the Kent area. As the Upstream Associate Scientist you will be responsible for taking a Scientific lead in tasks and projects within Upstream Process Development (including Contract Development/Manufacture) as well as New Product Development.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

1. As the Upstream Associate Scientist you will be responsible for engaging with a small team of Scientists and Technicians to ensure rapid project progress as well as the delivery of exceptional data quality and scientific support to customers.

2. You will be required to work closely with project time lines, work input goals as technical progress allows and contribute to working on Downstream or Analytical tasks when and where the projects require.

3. Your role as the Upstream Associate Scientist will involve approximately 70% of time working hands-on in the laboratory and dealing with primary data.

4. You will be responsible for contributing to preparation of lab process outlines as well as interacting with Technical Transfer to prepare for Scale-Up process outlines, whilst supporting and complying with R&D laboratory working practices.

Role Requirements

1. Relevant degree in a relevant life science discipline such as Biotechnology, Bioengineering, Microbiology or Biochemistry.

2. Proven industry experience using microbiological skills and aseptic techniques, as well as protein expression techniques such as SDS-Page, HPLC, cell banking and running laboratory equipment used for microbial fermentation.

3. A working knowledge and practical experience working with protein expression within E.coli, preferably experience with genetic engineering for the optimisation of protein expression.
