Ricky Martin
Managing Director
Ricky graduated as a Biochemist from Cardiff University in 2006 which subsequently fuelled his passion for a career in the Life Sciences sector. He spent over a decade recruiting exclusively for the sciences before setting up Hyper Recruitment Solutions (in 2012) with the mission to help people and change lives through healthcare and / or new technologies.

He is a fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and the Chair of the UK Life Sciences committee for the REC, sharing best practice and helping to raise the standards in the industry.

Interesting fact: Prior to setting up HRS was the UK Heavyweight and UK Tag Team Champion for professional wrestling and received an offer to try out for the big leagues in the US for WWE. Following my success in wrestling I was approached to take part in BBC1’s action game show, Total Wipeout which I won in 2009.

Eve specialises in life sciences recruitment at HRS. She moved into recruitment after spending six years working within the Life Sciences industry so has a sound knowledge and understanding of the sector and its requirements.

What do you enjoy the most about working at HRS?
I really enjoy working at HRS. I feel the business’s key values match my own when it comes to placing the right scientists into the right jobs having been a job seeker in the life sciences industry previously.

Sandy Chander
Communications and Marketing Manager
Sandy has over 15 years’ experience of working within the Education sector in a variety of roles including teaching. With a passion for creativity and helping people, these combined interests drew her to the role of marketing and communications at HRS. Her other responsibilities include, developing and managing the Apprenticeship scheme, developing HRS’ Corporate Social Responsibility, working closely with HRS’ designated charities to organise internal and external fundraising events for the team.

What do you enjoy the most about working at HRS?
HRS’ values are very much aligned to my own. Working for a company that is passionate about making a difference and helping people in the sectors it supports is fantastic and I am very proud to be a part of that. I am able to do things I love and enjoy in my job, so it doesn’t feel like work.

Interesting fact: Injured in the line of duty - I fractured my foot whilst attending a recruitment awards ceremony.

Gary Eldridge

Gary has developed a vast amount of experience within the contract recruitment market since 2008 and joined HRS to focus on growing the contracts division. Gary has worked across and set up a number of niche markets within the recruitment industry in the UK and internationally. He works closely with the Quality, Regulatory and Engineering teams to provide interim and contract solutions to our clients.

Despina Kefala
Recruitment Manager
Despina specialises in commercial recruitment within the Life Sciences and Biotechnology industries spanning across UK and Europe. The roles she recruits for include sales, marketing and technical specialists. With a BSc in Biological Sciences, Despina feels this is the perfect role to combine her interest in science whist enabling her to have interaction with others.

What do you enjoy the most about working at HRS?
I really enjoy the diversity of my job; there are many new challenges that are thrown at you which make you quickly adapt and grow as a recruiter in order to overcome these. There is a great team and atmosphere at HRS which makes the role extremely enjoyable.

Interesting fact: I have a strong interest in fertility. Before I joined HRS, I used to work in the lab as a trained Andrologist.

Christopher Carey
Senior Recruitment Consultant
Christopher spent a number of years in recruitment before joining the HRS team as a Senior Recruitment Consultant, therefore he knows the industry extremely well.

What do you enjoy the most about working at HRS?
I enjoy working for HRS as I am able to utilise my experience to help people secure a new role whilst learning all about the different aspects of the science profession. What makes my job even more enjoyable is being surrounded by some amazing people that have a real passion in what we do.

Interesting fact: I am part of the Broxbourne Badgers. 2015/16 Saturday Premier Division, undefeated, champions

Georgia St John-Smith
Senior Recruitment Consultant
Georgia works within our interim Contracts Division, focusing on Quality Assurance (including QP's) and Validation. She previously worked in contract recruitment across various sectors including the NHS and local authorities. She graduated from Oxford Brookes University with an upper 2:1 in Economics, Politics and International Relations BA (Hons).

What do you enjoy the most about working at HRS?
I like working for HRS because I’m constantly engaging with people and seeking to better professional careers and ultimately, find the right candidate for the right role.

Interesting fact: I’m a huge football fan and support Leicester City - yes I’m from Leicester. I’m also a former cheerleader and organised a charity calendar for 2016.

Greg Hammond

Greg is a graduate with an MSc in Managing the Environment and a BSc in Biochemistry from Aberystwyth University. He joined HRS to utilise his knowledge within the Life Sciences industry and to help people progress into their ideal career.

What do you enjoy the most about working at HRS?
I enjoy working in a competitive environment and working with likeminded people who are like myself, passionate about science.

Interesting fact: I achieved fifth place in the British Universities Creek Race in Scotland. I also play golf to a handicap of five. I also shared a box at a Chelsea football game with Samuel L Jackson.

David Powell
Recruitment Manager – Scientific Technology
David is leading the expansion of the HRS brand in the North of England to support existing and new clients with how they collect, use and protect their data. He started his recruitment career over 10 years ago, working alongside Ricky. Since then he has built and led teams in the Technology sector in Sussex, London and Manchester.

What do you enjoy the most about working at HRS?
I chose to work with HRS because I believed in Ricky and his passion to help make a difference and I honestly think, by combining our skills we have a unique opportunity to help our client and candidate communities.

Interesting fact: I am a four times Ironman finisher and have raced in triathlons across Europe, my favourite location by far and away was racing in the Austrian Alps.

Georgia is a Recruitment Consultant specialising in Biologics. After finishing a degree in Biomedical Sciences and a Research Masters in Cell Biology and undertook a Graduate Management Course before moving to HRS.

What do you enjoy the most about working at HRS?
I decided to join HRS as I really like recruitment and I felt this company was the best in the market place and somewhere she could really make a difference. I enjoy finding the right candidate for the role, especially when it is difficult to fill.

Interesting fact: I moonlighted as a TV extra when I was younger and the back of my head can be seen in a number of well-known shows such as Kerching, Footballers Wives and Eastenders!

Chris Sowden
Senior Recruitment Consultant
Chris specialises in recruiting for Quality Assurance in the Pharmaceutical sector. He joined HRS after completing a Biochemistry degree at Oxford University.

What do you enjoy the most about working at HRS?
I joined HRS because it provides me with a platform to impact the science industry whilst enabling me to meet people actually working on real life projects that ultimately make a difference to people’s lives. I enjoying helping the industry without having to spend all my time in the lab, which I knew wasn’t for me.

Interesting fact: I spent 12 months of my Masters project researching how drugs such as cocaine enter the brain to explore if there was a key to curing diseases such as Alzheimer’s.

Marcus Rossi
Recruitment Consultant
Marcus is a Recruitment Consultant at HRS. He graduated university with a first class degree in Sport and Exercise Science.

What do you enjoy the most about working at HRS?
I enjoy working at HRS because of how friendly and enthusiastic everyone is about their work. I chose recruitment, in particular HRS as they specialise in science. My job involves helping change people’s lives as well as improving the quality of the science industry. My previous jobs have been across various industries including Hospitality to (refereeing) football.

Interesting fact: I played football for Ipswich and Watford Academy and County Level Under 18’s before going to university.

Chris Amey
Financial Controller
Chris is a London Metropolitan University graduate and is ACCA qualified. He joined HRS to set up and establish the finance function. He has been working as FC/FD for the past 10 years in the service industry.

What do you enjoy the most about working at HRS?
I enjoy working at HRS because it’s a growing, ambitious company with a great team of talented, like-minded professionals.

Interesting fact: I was moments away from delivering my second son because we were having a home birth. We left it too late to phone the midwife – she eventually arrived moments before the birth to relieve me of my duties.
Rachel Smart
Contracts and Compliance Officer
Rachel is part of the Contracts team at HRS. Her role is to ensure every candidate is set up on the correct contract, is comfortable before they begin their new role and happy whilst working for HRS. Prior to joining the HRS team, she worked within recruitment, for the Medical industry for five years, learning payroll and admin, finance and compliance. The compliance area was a big move for her; learning the vast compliance requirements for medical staff to be fit for psychiatry roles.

What do you enjoy the most about working at HRS?
I enjoy my role here at HRS because everyone is positive; from my colleagues in the office to the candidates themselves. There is a positive attitude in the office on a daily basis. It is nice to be involved in a company who cares about the people they are helping to place into work.

Interesting fact: Whilst out celebrating my 21st birthday, I met Olly Murrs. He was happy to be in many photos of me and my friends. I was also one of seven people to fit into a Smart car at the same time.
Edward McNulty
Recruitment Consultant
Edward is a Recruitment Consultant specialising in Chemistry. He went to university in Manchester and graduated with a Business Management degree. He enjoys the sales aspect of recruitment and this is what attracted him to the role. During his A Levels he worked in as a chef in a pub and during the summer holidays at a sweetshop.

What do you enjoy the most about working at HRS?
Although I do not have a science background I have been able to learn a lot about the Science industry and the earning potential is definitely something that drives me.

Interesting fact: I took a helicopter tour of the Island, when I holidayed in Hawaii.

Christina Giakou

Christina is a Recruitment Consultant, within the Commercial team. She graduated from the University of Birmingham with a BSc in Biological Sciences

What do you enjoy the most about working at HRS?
I like working for HRS because of the challenging nature of the job and mostly because of the people that work here. The work environment is super friendly and everyone has been supportive. Before working for HRS I was working as a Sales Assistant at Hollister, therefore gained confidence in interacting with customers and fulfilling their needs.

Interesting fact: I went for snowboarding in Siberia.
Laura Fellowes
Marketing Assistant
Laura has a variety of experience in customer and client facing roles. She has recently joined the Marketing team at HRS to support with social media, events and other marketing duties.

What do you enjoy the most about working at HRS?
I really enjoy working for HRS because its more than just a recruitment company. We help to generate so much positivity in the development of science and technology and it’s great to be a part of that.

Interesting fact: Alongside Marketing, Laura also works in the Beauty industry, where she has done everything from fashion shoots to wedding day makeup.

Ben Hughes
Recruitment Consultant
Ben is based at our Manchester office, he specialises in helping clients and candidates within data and cyber security. He has two years’ experience in the recruitment industry and enjoys the investigating and problem-solving aspects of the role, which lead onto delivering great results and building trusted relationships.

What do you enjoy the most about working at HRS?
I believe in the personal and honest service HRS offers to make a positive contribution to recruitment in life science.

Interesting fact: When I am not recruiting, you can find me on a rugby pitch.
Debra Fong
Recruitment Consultant
Debra specialises in supporting Life Science recruitment in the Scotland office. She has a background in architectural engineering, after spending two years working in the industry, she wanted to do something more challenging and fun.

What do you enjoy the most about working at HRS?
I like working for HRS because of its “life changing” motto and commitment. I like that I place candidates into companies who research and develop drugs to better people’s lives.

Interesting fact: I’ve had quite a few accidents as a child. I had stitches on my lip from an accident during a water fight.
Haseena Mooncey
Recruitment Consultant
Haseena works within the Contract division at HRS. She graduated with a first in her Business Economics degree. Before joining HRS, she was working in the Contact Centre for a pharmaceutical firm.

What do you enjoy the most about working at HRS?
I like working with such a wide variety of candidates. It’s such a good feeling knowing that I am making a difference to their lives. I also love the team that I work with, the office environment is great.

Interesting fact: I like to talk a lot, so I challenged myself to a 24 hour digital and physical silence. Somehow I managed to complete it and raised £1,100 for the UN Refugee Appeal. Not speaking for such a long period for someone like me and not using your phone for Snapchat is more challenging than I thought.
Georgina Beer
Recruitment Consultant
Georgina is a recruitment consultant for HRS in the Biology team. She recently graduated from The University of Sheffield with a BSc (Hons) in Biochemistry and Genetics. Georgina chose to work in recruitment because although she loves science, she couldn’t see herself working hands-on in a laboratory.

What do you enjoy the most about working at HRS?
I like working at HRS because it allows me to keep in touch with the science while making a difference in another way. I get to talk to some amazing people every day and help place scientists and anyone remotely involved in science in roles that have the potential to improve their life as well as others further down the line.

Interesting fact: I am a keen ski slalom racer – I have in fact raced as part of Team England when I was in year 13.
Lucie McGrath

Lucie is based in the Manchester office supporting the IT sector within pharmaceutical. She recently graduated with a First Class degree in Medicinal and Biological Chemistry at the university of Manchester Metropolitan.

I like working at HRS because I am able to use my scientific background in a commercial environment, and ultimately give back to the sectors that can really make a difference to people’s lives. HRS has an extremely friendly culture, working with a team of people who love their job.

Interesting fact: Worked as a part-time chef for over seven years before starting at HRS

Aliyah is working in the contract team specialising in QA at HRS after graduating with a BSc in Biological Sciences at Plymouth university last year.

Accounts Assistant
Andrew is part of the finance team at HRS. Prior to joining, he worked in recovery auditing for over six years, identifying and recovering previously-lost revenue for a number of major retailers while also helping to improve their procurement-to-payment cycles, before successfully completing a master's degree in Professional Accountancy in 2018.

What do you enjoy the most about working at HRS?

Interesting fact: I’m a big football fan, and in addition to regularly playing 5-a-side and holding a season ticket at West Ham United, I once lifted the European Cup while on holiday in Barcelona.

Amy is from a town in Scotland, just outside of Glasgow. She studied Immunology and Pharmacology at The University of Strathclyde in Glasgow.

What do you enjoy the most about working at HRS?
I enjoy working at HRS as everyone was very welcoming when I started and I enjoy being able to talk to new people every day.

Interesting fact: I have been a ballet dancer for 19 years.

Rachel graduated from the University of Birmingham with a BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Sciences and specialised in Vascular Biology and Pathology and Endocrine

I like working for HRS because I like the idea of placing someone in a position where they could really make a difference to people’s lives. I also really enjoy the working environment here.

Interesting fact: I love horse riding but have had many accidents including being thrown against a fence by one.
Zoe Sturgess
Recruitment Consultant
Zoe is a Recruitment Consultant. She graduated in 2019 from Lancaster University, with a degree in Biological Sciences. During and before her time at University she undertook many roles including maths and English tutor, parking assistant, waitress, a shoe sales assistant and a lab assistant in aquatic ecology.

What do you enjoy the most about working at HRS?
I decided to join HRS because I felt that this was the perfect role for me to still be able to use my scientific knowledge, but not be in the labs. The atmosphere at the office is fantastic and it’s great to know that you are making a difference to people’s lives.

Interesting fact: I used to be on the debating team for Lancaster University!
Elliott Harvey

Elliott is from Lowton in Wigan. Previous to HRS, Elliott did an Internship with the Westminster Council Prevent Team which deals with anti-terrorism. He now works as a Recruitment Consulant in the HRS Manchester office.

What do you enjoy the most about working at HRS?
I like working for HRS because of the welcoming environment and friendly colleagues. I also enjoy working in a fast paced environment and this is certainly offered working at HRS.

Interesting fact: I’m 6ft6 but can’t slam dunk when I play basketball.
Rabia Khan
Recruitment Consultant
Rabia has a Degree in Biological Sciences and graduated from the University of Heriot-Watt. She then went on to do her Master's in Molecular Microbiology at the University of Strathclyde. Rabia has expereince as a Radio Show Manager from her time at University. She now works as a Recruitment Consultant at HRS in the Manchester office.

What do you enjoy the most about working at HRS?
I love what HRS stand for. I really like their ethos and felt it was a company where I could see myself progressing. Everyone’s so welcoming and supportive.

Interesting fact: I was once trapped in a lift for over an hour!
Savannah Adams
Recruitment Consultant
Savannah is a recruitment consultant at HRS. She graduated with a Biochemistry Degree from Nottingham Trent University. During her time at university, she worked as a project support officer for Interactingames where she helped implement a new 3D learning platform that can be used to support learning through serious gaming learning technology.

What do you enjoy the most about working at HRS?
I chose recruitment and specifically HRS so that I can contribute directly and make a difference to R&D in the life science sector without being in the lab all day. As an extrovert, I enjoy that I get to talk to a variety of stakeholders in the life science industry via this job at HRS.

Interesting fact: I used to run 1500m for Air Cadets England.
Fabio Roque
Recruitment Consultant
Fabio graduated from the University of Bath with a First Class Honours Degree in Sport and Social Science . He has acquired a range of fundamental skills thanks to work experience in administration, events management and football refereeing. Subsequently, these experiences have built the solid foundations he needs to change lives for the better here at HRS.

What do you enjoy the most about working at HRS?
I chose to work at HRS because of their ethical values towards recruitment. Not only is everyone in the office valued for their personal qualities, but every single candidate and client is valued on a personal level

Georgina Hillier
Recruitment Consultant
Georgina studied a Masters in Biochemistry at Queen Mary University of London, with a focus on the relationship between the gut microbiome and its effect on ageing. Whilst at uni she worked for a charity where the main goal was to raise aspirations of young people and increase their academic confidence. Since graduating, Georgina now works as a Recrutiment Consulant in the Loughton office.

What do you enjoy the most about working at HRS?
I like working at HRS because of the people I get to met. Not only my colleagues, but also our clients and applicants.

Interesting fact: I know all the lyrics to Super Bass by Nicki Minaj.
Darrell Powell
Recruitment Consultant
Darrell is a Recruitment Consultant based at our Loughton office. After graduating from University with a Biochemistry degree, Darrell started his career at HRS. Previous to this, Darrell taught English to foreign students and turtored GCSE maths.

What do you enjoy the most about working at HRS?
I chose HRS predominantly because of the values, but more specific to the role itself because I like managing relationships and engaging with people.

Interesting fact: I was in a production where I played a singing and dancing gangster clown in a remake of James Bond.

Holly Christian is currently on a Placement Year working as a Resource Consultant for Hyper Recruitment Solutions. She studies International Relations at the University of Essex. In the past she has worked for Linklaters and AIG which are in two different industries but have helped shape her skills.

I enjoy working for HRS because it is something different from what I have done before making it a new learning experience.

Lashai is currently a second year university student working at HRS as a Resource Consultant for her Placement Year. Lashai studies Politics at the University of Essex.
