We are currently looking for an Environmental Health Officer (EHO) to join a leading local authority’s Environmental Health department on a temporary basis. This exciting opportunity is based within a district council, where the successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring health and safety regulations are upheld across various workplaces and commercial premises. This role provides a chance to contribute to community wellbeing and ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
The position is full-time, working 37 hours per week, and is expected to last long-term due to a sick leave cover, potentially extending into maternity leave. The role is primarily office-based, requiring presence at the council’s offices between three and five days per week, with some responsibilities involving responses to unauthorised gypsy and traveller encampments in the district.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Your duties as the Environmental Health Officer will be varied however the key duties and responsibilities are as follows:
- To monitor, inspect, and enforce health and safety standards across workplaces and commercial premises to ensure regulatory compliance.
- To provide professional advice and guidance to businesses and the public on health and safety matters.
- To respond to incidents and investigate breaches related to health, safety, and unauthorised encampments within the district.
- To assist with operations involving unauthorised gypsy and traveller encampments, providing appropriate support and responses.
- As the Environmental Health Officer, you will maintain accurate records, produce reports, and contribute to the ongoing improvement of environmental health services.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
To be successful in your application to this exciting role as the Environmental Health Officer we are looking to identify the following on your profile and past history:
- A Degree or higher level in Environmental Health or a related field (e.g., Public Health, Occupational Safety).
- Proven experience in a regulatory or environmental health enforcement role, ideally within local authority settings.
- A recognised EHORB registration or equivalent qualification from the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health.
